Liking 2009 so far :-)

So. Lets see. I have started to update this thing 2 or three times, and was just not in the mood to write. I guess today is better. -smile-

Generally, there is a lot of day to day stuff; clean the catbox, laundry, dishes…. la de da. There are several things though that have happened that were more interesting.

First, Chad and Laura’s Wedding in Springfield, MO.

inside the Gillioz Theater.

MB was a dear, and rode with me on the drive to MO. She could have flown, as Kyle, and Chris Buehlman did. I was already going to be the driver for the weekend, so I drove MB’s truck, and off we went. I had a serious need to drive. Don’t really know why, but I did. It worked out, because MB was feeling sick, and was not really interested in driving. It was only 8 hours, so easily done in daylight hours.
Chris had reserved for a us a lovely suite at a Marriot. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay there. Of course, a room filled with vibrant, intelligent people generally means, lots of great conversations, and little sleep.

The wedding.
Chad and Laura themed their wedding Cirque du Amour. A masquerade for a wedding, who knew, and it rocked. I was completely impressed with how all out everyone went. Both Chad and Laura know many wonderful, talented people, and it was nice to see all the effort and love that poured into the event. Chris read a poem by a Mexican poet in Spanish and English. Juliet sand Ave Maria…Acapella! That was a feat, and lovely. The ceremony had many elements, and was gorgeous. Should I ever have the opportunity, I hope whatever “we” design will be as moving and beautiful.
The ceremony was held in the Gillioz Theater, which was lovingly restored. The reception was upstairs. Convenient to those of us who do not much care for the cold. I met a pile of wonderful people, and we enjoyed ourselves fully.
The next day everyone was deposited at the airport as needed, and MB and I drove home. Poor MB was feeling worse than before, but still did her best to keep me entertained.

Next.
My Birthday. I was born on the 21st of January in 1974, at 3:10am. I think it was a Monday. This one was a Wednesday. *grin*
My birthday and the following days last year, really sucked; like a lot. Knowing that there was no way for there to be a repeat of such “depth of suck”; I was determined it would be excellent. I am a very lucky girl in my friends and loved ones, and messages of all kinds poured in all day. I love each and every one of you, too!
My day consisted of a driving tour of Fort Worth with random stops along the way to nowhere in particular with Bert. Those of you who know Bert, that is very apropos and funny. We went all the way out to the Pate Museum of Transportation, and looked at planes, tanks, and automobiles.

Now is that a sexy car, or what? Don’t build them that way anymore. -sigh-
Again I was too stupid to remember my camera, but luckily the one on my phone does not completely suck.

On our way back to town to “feed the Kelly”, we were driving by the rail line, and I noticed that there was still telegraph poles, that still had insulators and wiring. Interesting. This is usually removed. The road has not been expanded or updated yet, so they will probably all be gone in a couple of years, but it is fun to imagine how it was when they were still in use. Also we liberated a couple of insulators, ’cause we could.

Again on the way to getting food, Bert takes a detour through Benbrook looking for something. He is new to the “feed the Kelly…NOW” game. I was not eating my arm yet. Anyway…in Benbrook, there is a memorial to Vernon Castle, a WWI pilot, and dancer, that died in a routine flight. The airfield used to be where suburb Benbrook is now.

Finally, to the food place! We drive right by Lockheed Martin on our way there. Always cool, they make planes there…I love planes. Nothing seems to be going on today at the airfield. We are going to eat at a cute little joint on a point on Lake Worth, called The Point. Isn’t that clever?
The Point

Shiner was the only decent beer, but the food was great. The day was glorious, so we sat outside, and just as we did so two or three F-16s took off, and were doing acrobatics. Rolls and climbing stalls; it was awesome! The impromptu airshow was a great cap to the day.

And there is yet more! Bert went to class and I met MB and Kyle at their house to ride over to Italian for my party. I am a girl who loves Italian, so I was excited, and I was about to be surrounded by more of my favorite people. Yippee! I had a great time! I got some booty, and a special red velvet cake from Mary Dane, and the Bert was even able to come after class. It was a great evening! I turned 35, and I’m lovin’ it so far. : )

Third.
The day after.
A lamp on the Flatiron building
The next day was even more gorgeous; warm and sunny. I had been wanting to do a walking tour of Fort Worth and take architecture photos, so that is just what I did. I took over 300 in fact! I did cull out he awful ones, and the rest are in this Set on my Flickr account. I have to say some of them are pretty great. I love the buildings here! And two of them had owls on them, no joke. It was a little windy, but I had a really great time, and talked to a couple of people about what I was doing. Had lunch, and came home perfectly satisfied with my day.

Now, I am preparing to start up the sewing machine. I have a bunch of Elizabethan orders that I need to get going on, and the sketches and fabrics are revving up.
So look for the updates to be more sewing-centric…again. I will post any costumey stuff to WE of course.

Love ya!

  1. What a wonderful day! I love the Pate Museum. Do they still have the old Pullman Sleeper Train Car? I’ve spent a couple nights in that car before. FUN!! Climbed in tanks and old red London buses. Great memories. And Happy Birthday, again! I know that cake couldn’t have been half as good as the ones you remember from childhood – but at the least I hope it brought back lots of warm memories!

  2. Happy belated birthday Kelly! It was fantastic to see you outside of the dusty Bristol environs! Glad to hear you had a fantabulous time for your day.
